What is an antique grain sack?
A utilitarian sack hand-spun and hand-woven from hemp around 1900, used by Transylvanian families to carry grain to the communal mill. The woven stripes were each family’s signature — which is why no two sacks are alike.
How do I know your textiles are authentic?
Every piece is verified before it’s documented: a fiber burn test confirms the material (hemp burns cleanly, leaving powdery ash — synthetics melt), and the weave is identified as 4-shaft twill, diagonal or herringbone. Weight is the third check: a full antique grain sack — roughly 50×120cm — weighs between 500g and 1kg. A cushion cover sewn from it is naturally lighter, but still noticeably denser and heavier than any reproduction of the same size.
Is the insert included?
No — you receive the cover only. We recommend an insert 1–2cm larger than the cover in each direction for a full, plump look.
Can I wash an antique hemp cushion cover?
Yes. Antique hemp is remarkably durable and softens with every wash. Full instructions are in our Care Guide.
Where do you ship, and how long does it take?
EU: 7–14 days, free shipping. UK: 10–20 days, free shipping. US: 4–7 days via DHL Express (import duties of approximately 10% are collected at delivery).
Will this piece be restocked?
Never. Each piece is one of a kind — when it sells, it is gone. Made-to-order listings use different antique sacks each time, so even those are never identical.
Can you make a custom size?
